You can't upgrade in-place from Vista x86 to Vista x64; you must use the migration tool (Windows Easy Transfer) to backup your data and restore when you're done.

Certain Windows Vista x86 editions can upgrade in-place to certain Windows 7 x86 editions, no migration tool is needed.

Upgrading from Vista x86 to Windows 7 x64 requires a migration, i.e., Windows Easy Transfer. An in-place upgrade is not available.

Didn't you say earlier that applications native to an older OS can run successfully using windows compatibility mode on a newer OS? But here you're implying in the windows upgrade adviser section that certain applications cannot run once an upgrade is performed. Which is it?

If XP can upgrade to vista, and vista can upgrade to 7, then via the transitive property could xp upgrade to 7 with the proper product codes?

Taking the 802 tomorrow...
