A second day of national rail strikes is under way, after talks between the RMT union and employers ended in deadlock.

The dispute is centred around pay, working conditions and job security. People are being advised to work from home if they can.

I've been screwed over by these strikes but would never show anger towards the strikers. Full solidarity, they deserve the 7% payrise.

They need to coordinate with teachers, barristers and nurses. Frankly, anybody under fire and rehire should strike.

Better warn that picket line, Kay Burley might turn up and start a fight just to drum up a story

My sympathy is with the strikers, and this is the very first time I have felt this way.
I have a feeling that there is a second coming if BA staff go on strike.

Solidarity with those striking. Employers need to realize they can't walk all over us

Hearing the transport minister talking about ineffective working practices I wonder if MPs might consider paying for they're own dinners, second homes, expenses for everything and maybe turning up to work s bit more frequently

7% is nothing. Inflation is 8%. Therefore they are loosing 1%.

Breaking a part of the great system should impact a great wakeup call. Enough of this nonsense of sending money and weapons everywhere and start thinking of your own people. Amazing to see the UK people standing up with the strikes and realize the importances those changes can do in policy. We need stability and peace, no more support of war, greed and destruction.

Come on Johnson. Do your job. Settle this strike. Pretend the rail workers are bankers looking for an end to the wages cap.

good luck to the strikers. The government and the train companies will not want to give the inch they should have given any time in the last 12 years so I fear this will drag on. I can only hope that if the disruption continue for a long time that people don't lose sight of the people who are ultimately responsible for so many professions being on strike or thinking about striking this year.

so the TSSA union has gotten its members a 7.1% wage rise working on mersey rail. yet RMT is only being offered 2 to 3 %. both unions represent different types of railway staff but, come on, anyone believe that railway operators in these negotiations will not offer somewhere around 7%. why haven't they then? because they have to report any agreed deals to grant shapps department. this whole dispute is obviously suffering from government interference because there are two by elections being held today. that's why government have been pointing finger at Labour party. any money rail operators will have shackles released next week or week after and RMT get a 7% wage rise

Perhaps Carrie Johnson should have been in a union, maybe would have helped getting a cushy job from Boris.
