The Haitians had to pay a "Freedom Debt" to those who lost "property" after the Revolution. They never really got out from under it until 1945...the Revolution ran from 1791 to 1804.

The other thing is that Black people were legally supposed to receive reparations -- 40 acres and a mule-- but it was never given. Modern reparations would really just be the value of that plus two hundred odd years kf interest.

A quick Google search says $300 in 1860s is equivalent to a little under $11, 400 today, my only critique is leaving out current monetary value to put into perspective of who profit driven slavery was.

I appreciate your insightfulness. You appear to be an extremely rational, effective critical thinker as a young black man. On all levels slavery was evil. Reparations for slave owners given how horrific enslaving another human was absolutely absurd. To treatment of another human like they were nothing more than just a "free tool" is beyond comprehension.

It's amazing how holocaust victims descendants and native Americans received reparations, but black people shouldn't and need to forget slavery happened and that racism exists. It swwms to me that some just don't want black people to receive anything more than ignorant treatment.

$300 per enslaved person? That would be about $5800 per person in today’s money. Some had hundreds of slaves.
