The above programme included an analyst/professor, a former diplomat and an ex-military man who had a decent 'chai pe charcha' or as one would put in Shashi Tharoor's words : "All hats and no cattle".

The best possible solution for this is to allow "Lateral Entry" of Retired (SSC) Military Officers in to IFS & MEA.

If Retired Military Officers become the part of "IFS" then can help in transformation of IFS as a service & MEA as an organization.

It can transform IFS from a more soft-power dependent service to a well balanced service that can utilise both Soft-power & Hard-power options to achieve Indian interests.

This will also allow Indian Govt to use the "Talent" that it invested in Military Academies for a better role than letting them get absorbed by Pvt Sector.

Similarly, Retired (SSC) Military Officers must be allowed "Lateral Entry" in to MoD as Bureaucrats to insure greater expertise.

"Military Attaché" is a different thing in comparison to an IFS or Diplomat with a Military background.
It just changes the mindset how a Diplomat /IFS with a Military background will think & Operate.

At the same time Indian Govt must consider to shift India towards a "Presidential" form of Govt with Fixed term limits for President, Senators & House Representatives.

Indian Parliamentary System is a recipe of disaster for a Nation like India as it leads to:-
(1) Political Instability
(2) Fusion of Executive & Legislative powers
(3) Governance
(4) Challenge to Federalism
(5) Lack of Meritocracy
