Is Anxiety a Villain or Hero in Inside Out 2? Anxiety is set up as the main antagonist for much of Inside Out 2, but she isn’t a bad guy. Even though she banishes the main characters from Headquarters, her goal is to help Riley grow. As the story unfolds, Anxiety becomes more desperate to "help" Riley prepare for an uncertain future, causing Riley to distance herself from her friends and make poor choices. Anxiety's actions come from a genuine belief that she's helping Riley, but she ends up causing a panic attack. Unlike a typical villain, Anxiety is more of a direct contrast to Joy. Both take charge of managing Riley's emotions, are firm in their beliefs, and eventually learn to let go. Joy goes through a similar journey, realizing she needs to let go of Riley's old Sense of Self for a new one to develop. The film’s message echoes the first Inside Out: all emotions need to be recognized and embraced for Riley to grow. By the end, the new emotions, including Anxiety, are accepted as part of the group.

Let's be honest, Riley doesnt suffer a panic attack near the end of the movie, it's an anxiety attack. Anxiety goes full blown melt down worrying about all the pressure on Riley and takes full control from the other new emotions.

In the movie, *No one* is a villain. Everyone is misunderstood and are made of trouble which makes it beautiful and amazing! ❤

Inside Out 1: Every emotion is important to Riley to shape her expression.
Inside Out 2: Every memory is important to Riley to build a logical sense of self.

they confirmed that Anxiety isn't a villan.
She just worries too much and causes unwanted harm

Anxiety and Joy were (unintentionally) trying to take control over Riley because they wanted the best for her. Instead, that became the main problem.

the thing about inside out is that there are no villains just different emotions with different points of view and that's what makes the film so cool

Anxiety is someone who thought they understood a school assignment, went full steam ahead, and then joy comes along and tells them you read a part wrong, you were meant to do this. Then become study buddies where joy helps when they get off the assignment

First, she's a girl and she is not a villain. She was just trying to change Riley to someone that she wanted to be but anxiety had an attack to Riley which that made joy, stop anxiety and make anxiety calm enjoy it, makes her friends with the group and her best friends❤

Anxiety was that villian that understood that have made a mistake and joined main protagonists.

This is why each emotion should have equal control of Riley so no one emotion can take full control and they would all be required to work together to ensure Riley functions properly.

One thing I love about anxiety is that she’s literally the worse case scenario version of joy from the last movie.

Anxiety is neither a hero and villain. She's an emotion. She's done both good and bad things. The message of the movies is that it's okay to let your emotions be present. Calling Anxiety a villain wouldn't be any different from calling Sadness a villain, or any other emotion for that matter. And potraying them like inherently bad is sending a harmful message

Honestly, anxiety was basically joy in the first movie times 100 instead of just suppressing one emotion and letting them stay in headquarters she got rid of the five core emotions and trapped them in a jar and instead of just controlling console all the times she controlled Riley’s beliefs and was only focusing on what could wrong all the time only all the time and pushing Riley really hard. Like Joy in the first movie, anxiety only suppressed the emotions she believed that Riley didn’t need anymore so yeah, she was the antagonist in this movie, but she became an antihero after joy helped her.
