Steve Jobs - Courage

This is a clip from the D8 Conference, recorded in 2010.
Steve Jobs is talking about the courage it takes to remove certain pieces of technology from Apple products. This happened after the iPad was introduced without support for Flash, just as the iPhone, back in 2007.

This clip adds some perspective into the debate of Apple's new AirPod and the decision to remove the traditional analog audio connector from the iPhone 7. This kind of decision is not new to Apple.

The interview occurred 6 years ago, and Steve Jobs was already using the word "courage" to explain why the company does things the way it does.

"If we succeed they'll buy them and if we don't they won't" just beautiful.

The sparkle in his eyes when he said: "We want to make the best products in the world!" It reminded me the limitless passion of a kid! Such a remarkable person!

This Guy is a LEGEND.
His heritage will live through generations.

He just summed it up, I mean the controversial headphone jack these days.
This is Apple's Philosophy, and I'm so glad that they haven't changed.

The future is Wireless.

If Steve Jobs was alive he would never allow for the removal of the headphone jack...

He's got a great mix of talent and his talent covers pretty much everything. He know what people want but he also know what would be better for people that people didn't know. He's energetic and passionate, a great speaker and brave. Not to mention his phenomenal understanding of "how things work" but he's able to talk about them without the technicalities.

I don't mind them removing the headphone jack.

I love this. I hate the post-Steve Apple community. Every time some new Apple product comes out, a minority of people are like "If Steve were alive, he wouldn't allow this." Yeah do you know him better than his colleagues at Apple? This video shuts all of them up.

this is irrelevant lol. he's talking about I/O that rapidly goes into obsolescence. There was so many different I/O solutions back then as he mentions (serial, ide, floppy, zip drive etc) that the standardization of these technologies was inevitable. They standardized in the form of USB which he mentions here. However, the audio jack, aux input, 3.5mm whatever you want to call it is already a universal standard. We don't have phones out there with XLR inputs, analog RCA inputs, optic inputs all competing for market share. It's been standardized which means everyone and their mother has 3.5mm headphones. With the iPhone 7 series you can't use anymore without the dongle. What they are really doing is roping people into more and more proprietary tech. The walled garden paradox. Android and Windows phone users? You got a 3.5mm headphone, microUSB charger? You're good. Apple products are infamous got roping people into a walled garden where they will need adapters or walk around with dongles.

The point of this video is to prove that Steve is and will always be a huge influence to Apple's decision making. I can't say whether or not the removal of the headphone jack is a good idea (it honestly doesn't affect me, I'm buying the 7 anyways) but if you don't like the change, you don't have to buy the product. If enough people don't buy the product, it will force the company to rethink their decisions.

You can say what you want about him, but this guy knows how to sell his product and how to convince people. He has amazing charisma.

Those who don't realize all the "advancements" made by Apple are just marketing schemes. The iPen. $100. The new ear buds. $150. Sensitive screen. Brand new phone.

What's next? They're gonna be selling the screen separate?

I remember when the iPad first launched EVERYONE(including myself) laughed at it, but that changed the first day I tried one. I have over 300 games across multiple consoles, and I can say without a doubt the IPad is still my favorite device.
