Period drama Bridgerton Season 1 shares the story of Daphne Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor), a young woman from the famous Bridgerton family who is in her debut year and steps into society to find a husband. Daphne is beautiful, elegant, and determined to find her perfect match this season, without exceptions. However, her brother Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey) seems intent on scaring away every possible suitor. Feeling desperate, Daphne makes a secret agreement with the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (played by Regé-Jean Page), who accidentally appears in the ton and becomes a magnet for all the mamas looking for husbands for their daughters. Simon, trying to escape the constant attention of these mamas, agrees with Daphne to play the role of her suitor. This agreement is meant to help Daphne attract the perfect match by making other men jealous, while also diverting the mamas’ attention, as they’ll assume Simon has his own lady.

Everything goes well until one complication arises—Daphne falls in love with Simon, and Simon’s heart begins to feel emotions he has never experienced before. Only when Daphne catches the eye of Frederick the Prince of Prussia does Simon realize he can no longer keep his feelings a secret.
