I'm sorry what ? Elaine is the French form of Helen which in turn comes from Greek Helene which means "torch" or "corposant" . Also possibly related to selene who is the daughter of Zeus, a deity or Greeks . So no, banning the name is legitimate, what would be stupid is if they claim it's because it's "not Arabic" .

Luckily, there is an Arabic version of the name Sarah. To get that version just remove the H.
