That soldier was meant to be back on the ship long ago, the Commander waits for awhile but assumes he's been lost (which is right, the soldier has been bitten!). This plan of theirs has been in development for years, and the Commander will not see it forever postponed while they scour the city for every individual survivor. For the greater good, as they say.

You see, the army isn't there specifically to blow up the city or the zombies, their target is something else...

maybe the reason why only her body was infected was because she was bit in the leg

or it could be that her bloodline has some kind of abillity, the main character can obviously talk to animals, so maybe her mom was somewhat resistant to being turned into a zombie

Many thanks! TBH, I started making silent films because I can't write dialogue to save my life :] I've found it's better this way, restriction is often great for creativity. Trying to tell a story entirely through visuals and music forces you to think in different ways, rather than relying on dialogue to carry the exposition. Plus it's more fun to animate! Lip-sync is a pain.

There is one line of dialogue in this episode, however, and it reveals a secret if you can figure out what he's saying!

This will eventually be addressed! There are some strange supernatural powers at work here, there will be a few flashback episodes that help fill some of the gaps.

I just stumbled upon this series and it has got a really good storyline! I can't imagine how hard it is to make the story this meaningful in a silent animation series, it has really surprised me how attached you can get to these characters! 19 more episodes, I can't wait! Bravo!
