Private schools are a better choice than public school for many reasons. ... The benefits ofprivate school for the students are that they have smaller class sizes and better teacher ratios from the students. Private have a high standards for discipline and respect to one another.

Send your kids to public school, then hire a really good tutor once a week...this is much, much better and cheaper! ---an advice from someone who is a product of public school system from elementary to university in the Philippines and went on to have a career in research and academia in Europe and Canada. A good tutor will help your kid get into the elementary and high school science program in public schools. But you got to start them young, tutor will start at 5 yrs old, so by 6 they get into the science program in public schools.  You can save money, so by the time they go to university, you can send them abroad—somewhere that's cheaper but offering good quality university training. There are science programs in big cities or regional science schools or the philippine science school. Except for the philippine science school systems, the other science schools do not require the kid to pursue science in College.

My grandson is now in a Private school in the Philippines and he’s made a lot of progress in a short period of time, especially in his English language skills.

I'm a product of the philippine public school system from elementary to high school. Now, I'm in Canada teaching the  practical part of a science course in a premier university in one of the metropolitan cities in Canada. My students are in the first and second year of university. My observation---no difference at all whether you are a product of Canadian schools or Philippine public schools. What I'm trying to say is that it depends on the student. If you're a student who put efforts to learn then it really does not matter where you come from. Why go to a private school when there is a public school? I find private schools a waste of money. Many of my friends who are products of the public school system went on to be succesful in life—many of them work abroad. It is better to save all that money for the kid's university education. University training is a different story. Both my nephew and niece go to public school, so that their parents can save money for their college education, which we value the most. They will study abroad for college.

When you go to the store and buy some oranges and when you get home you really want some apples you either have to go back to the store and buy apples or just learn to enjoy the oranges, because that is all you have.

Some countries have better fruit than others.

AS someone that is close to the DepEd.PH, I must say that private schools and public schools are mandated to follow the same guidelines as stated in the DO's published by the Department of Education. They must be in session for 208 days of which 5 days a for in school meetings; seminars and 3 days for PTA meetings. The holidays are scheduled with the National and local holidays, which means public and private schools must have pupils in class for 200 days. The classes are for 6 hours a day except the ones being on split schedules because of over crowding, instead of 40 minute class for each subject it is reduced to 30 minutes to provide the full daily lesson plan.
The main difference between public and private schools is private schools have less pupils therefore giving teacher to pupil greater relation( 25 )per class than public classes (35 to 45) per class some instances up to 50 per class. This is why private school have a higher grade average.
I am not aware of the chart you were showing for the grading scores as that is not published by DepEd.
Now as for the days proclaimed by the Mayors or Governors it is up to the Regions/Divisions to either make up the days on Saturday or forgive them, of which most Regions do make up the days as stated on Saturdays to complete the 200 class days.

It's sad and by design for rich people to continue to be the ruling class because they have the money to send their kids to private school or send them to the US or UK to get educated. Japan do not play when it comes to education that is why they lead in education in that region.

1/2 day school, no homework on weekends, classic example of the philippines striving for and realizing that quality over quantity is what is important, in america quality seems to override quality in everything they done, which is ass backwards

Here in Mindanao where I live she goes to school from 7am to 4:30 with an hour off campus lunch break and their physical education is mostly cleaning up the school grounds.Better than the public school here which is a little rough to say the least

Dude, what's with the sunglasses inside? Very distracting. I concur with your points. I had 3 kids in private school in Subic and my assessment is that the Philippine education system SUCKS. Doubt me? poll a cross section of Filipinos on an easy every day math question that requires a multi step mental solution. My kids were totally unprepared for transition to American schools and had virtually no background in modern mathematics. They sat in the same class/desk 8 plus hours a day with 1 instructor (in high school). My son who is now excelling in US schools only due to an excellent school system here and intense tutoring by me, says he learned Nothing in Philippine schools.

a public school grad here 30 yrs ago before getting into Catholic school in college and loved agree the old grading system is the best for it is more challenging for us kids back elementary school even then we are in school half a day only but in high school it's almost a whole day for before K+12 we only have up to grade 6 then 4 years in high school guess the changes have something to do wwith K+12 still have CAT in hs but we used to have ROTC in was suspended more than a decade ago because of corruption in the MCMTC(Metropolitan Civilian Military Training Corps) where a cadet got murdered by ROTC officers in college(unfortunately in the university i was in) for exposing bribery in school for students who don't want to undergo military really wish they bring it back so our boys will learn more about :(

sometimes it puzzles me, when you say americans tend to go to the philippines and want to change the way they do things there to what is done in america, why don't the americans stay in america and change the way things are done in america to the way things are done in the philippines, which makes more sense

it is not the school system fault or even the whole country, it is your own fault for lack of sacrifice to your daughter. most Asian parents in most Asian countries except the PH, would give an arm and leg to send their kids to First World countries for education at any cost but you decide the easy life with beer and cheap living without thinking for her future potential.
