i bought Beyer Dynamic DT 770 Pro because of the shout out Zeos gave in this video. And Jesus Christ !!!! For the love of all that is good and holy in the world these headphones got BASS like no other. I hooked up these German monsters on to my soundblaster ZXR amplifier then proceeded to equalize the shit out of them until i got an insane bass boost and then fired up Star Wars Battlefront !!!! All i will say is I truly felt the terror the rebels must have felt on Hoth when facing an AT-AT in Empire Strikes Back. The very steps of those walkers boomed my ears with such insane amount of bass i felt my head was gonna explode ! Even the turbo laser blasts of the walkers had such monstrous ominous effect due to the crazy amount of bass on these Beyer Dyanmics. The fear of being a rebel going up against the Empire definitely went up a few notches when gaming on these headphones. If you want a bass headphone with great directional audio and pretty good sound stage for closed set this is a sure buy ! All hail Zeos for making this video !

"Style doesn't matter if you can win with them".
I really liked that and totally agree with you.
Thanks so much for a great, accurate, interesting and super useful review!!!

The other reason to have an open back headphone for gaming is so you can hear the baby crying or wife calling or the delivery person at the door.

I got to tell you, INCREDIBLE VIDEO MAN! I've been doing a lot of research about gaming (that also suits my music expectations considering I always loved listen to all kinds of music) headsets and headphones for FPS since later last year, and this video is one of the best content I've found on internet so far. Right now I have a HyperX Cloud gaming headset, which is pretty much "okay" for gaming, but my next step is gonna be an open back headphone combine with a basic mic for comunication. My choice is probably gonna be the Sennheiser HD598, hope it suits me well as they're not exactly cheap here in Brazil.

Another great and educational video. 5:24 so true and the way you said it LMAO. You really should do an annual gaming headphone review. Give tips on your personal recommendations on the newest latest headphones and their application for gaming. I really like to know your opinion on Audio Technica A1000z for games. Im returning my sennheiser hd700. That headphone's sound stage is super overkill for gaming. I was playing Star Wars Battlefront with them and I heard laser blasts, explosions, soldiers dying, etc like 2000 yards away with good directional audio but i couldn't hear the footsteps of a stormtrooper just 5 *feet* away coming from behind ?!?! All my equalizer tweaking really didn't help much either. Anyhow, anyone reading this, Sennheiser hd 700 is good for music but for FPS footsteps?? pretty bad. Also the audio of hd 700 to my ears seemed really really "airy" which again doesn't help with footsteps.

I spent the whole day, like 10 hours trying to learn about headsets and headphones. Just your video (plus your reddit page) summarized everything I should know about the subject haha. Really, you have much knowledge, thank you very much for sharing it with us!

I have had Hyperx cloud 2, DT 770 Pro 80, Sennheiser hd 558, Hd 598Cs, Audio Technica ATH-50x, AKG 550, and I can tell you WITHOUT A DOUBT 110% none of them come close to my Phillips Fidelio X2, NOTHING. THe X2's are simply amazing sounding music and gaming. LOVE them.

You should try out the Philips SHP9500 and add them to the list.

they're an open headphoen that can be found for about $70 online, nice punchy bass and very comfy.

Just something I would consider for the sub $100 range.

As someone with a music production and audio engineering background (power amp designer), my views are bound to differ. The K240's are exceptional IMHO in that they don't exaggerate bass or treble the way most consumer headphones do. This is something I value for music playback since I prefer a flatter frequency response with better fidelity. The K240's match my desktop monitor speakers much better than some of the other headsets you reviewed here, which is the main reason I use them.

For desktop monitors, I run a couple of vented boxes with Eminance Beta 12A woofers and Eminance ASD1001S tweeters using a 3.5kHz crossover. These speakers have such closely matching response to the AKG headphones that I often forget others in the room can't hear what I'm hearing.

The monitors and headphones are powered by my custom designed amps. I use a pair of 75W RMS geometric mean class B power amps for the desktop monitors. I designed these amps using mostly SMD so this amp is quite compact, about the size of my hand. I use a variation on this amp design using the same power supply to power the AKG's so I have no issue with driving them to their full potential. My headphone amps will deliver a few watts into these headphones, way more than I'll ever want or need.

If your headphone amp lacks the power delivery, you're going to feel that these lack bass, pretty much for certain. Generally speaking, I feel that they have very powerful bass response, and a little software bass boost would probably be all you need to get that exaggerated bass you're craving, with a sufficiently powerful headphone amp. Unfortunately, their dynamic impedance is quite low in the bass range so you do need a beefy headphone output, something that can drive well under the 56ohm rating.

Thanks for all the info on DAC's and amps. Really brought life back to gaming. Keep up the great work!
