ExoPAG SIG 3 Tutorial Talk – Johanna Teske
Показать описание
The ExoPAG Science Interest Group 3 on Exoplanet Solar System synergies is supporting and organizing Tutorial Talks aimed at introducing field newcomers to important topics or methods in planetary and exoplanetary science. The talks include a 30 minute tutorial from an expert to introduce the topic, followed by a 30 minute group discussion of a recent paper in which the topic/method features.
Date: May 13, 2021
Speaker: Dr. Johanna Teske (Carnegie Science)
Title: Round-up of Exoplanet-y JWST Cycle 1 GO Programs
Abstract: At long last, the first General Observers (GO) programs for Cycle 1 of JWST observations have been announced! In this talk I will review the overall themes in the “exoplanets and disks” category of approved programs -- including the physics and chemistry of planet-forming disks, in-depth transmission and emission studies of “benchmark” exoplanets, and explorations of aerosols in objects from brown dwarfs to “super-puff” planets -- as well as highlight a few programs that I am particularly interested in, including the program being co-led by Natasha Batalha and myself, “Seeing the Forest and the Trees: Unveiling Small Planet Atmospheres with a Population-Level Framework”. This talk will not be exhaustive or go into many details, but is meant to give a broad-brush impression of, and get you excited about, the types of exoplanet-y science JWST will be conducting in its first few years of operation.
