You know, a huge issue for Georgia that year when compared to Alabama was that common opponents issue that Georgia had because both Georgia and Alabama played LSU and both games were at LSU. In the same stadium where Georgia was beaten by LSU 36-16 Alabama beat LSU 29-0. That is such a glaring difference that it’s possible that even if Georgia had managed to beat Alabama in the SEC Championship they may not have jumped Alabama.
