Love watching the videos on the gpz. My first street bike at 16 was a gpz550. When I joined the airforce it was at my brother's and got stolen. It was a fun bike and this is bring back all the memories! Thanks.

Good luck finding the part that you need. Bike is looking very nice. Good old UJM, can`t beat them.

I have a set of gauges hanging in my garage.
The speedo is good but the Rev counter is toast.
Your welcome to the gauges I have….only problem is I’m in Scotland

Good effort Eric, I have had the same issue, the spring attaches to that little silver arm that was hanging down near the centre of the speedo. I f you look closely you will see the end is bent over to hold the spring, as someone else said if you have another speedo and are able to remove the spring it is possible to replace it, just bend out that little silver arm, trap the end of the spring in that, BUT you need to pre tension it and the tension affects the speed shown. I have got one working like this but was never sure it was showing the correct speed afterwards and ended up just replacing it with one from eBay

If you have another speedo somewhere lying around any kind of motorcycle speedo you remove the the winding spring carefully and put it in your gpz speedo and your speedo will function again. I had to to that to my 750 gpz because it broke the spring the same way. Definitely clean and regrease the internal parts . It will save you a bit of money and it will still be the original speedo 👍

Good video, learned a number of things. How about exhaust headers and mid pipe painted heat resistant black?

It looks like the odometer gears were turning, so the mileage may be correct. It's interesting to see inside. Most people just replace it

Could you modify a spring front an ink pen to replace the broken spring?

I'm surprised that the clutch works as well as it does with all the water that was in the crankcase.

I owned a 86 750 GPz at 70 miles I was turning 1800 RPM. YOU need to check your sprocket ratios and check your rpm sending unit. 5K is way way too high at 70.
