The split between the kpop stars and the companies make sense because the "stars" are only a part of the product here. The companies will design and decide EVERYTHING, the music, genre, marketing and target demographic, gigs and other schedules based on their market research, and that takes a lot of man power.

I think it's also worth mentioning that most of our western pop stars are basically subjected to those kinds of tactics that you mentioned. Most of the top sellers in the charts are scouted out and groomed from a very early age, made to get plastic surgery to look sexy as possible, and even tortured/abused sexually as kids. Ariana Grande is a perfect example of this. The mainstream music business is one of the most corrupt businesses going, other than Hollywood. All you have to do is search google for a list of sexually abused celebrities to find the truth about how toxic the music/film industry really is.
