Im 26 and I’ve finally decided to join now, I feel like I didn’t have the right mentality to join when I first wanted too at 19 and i would have missed out on so many holidays/parties/festivals with my friends. After all the army is a massive commitment and becomes the biggest part of your life. However as the years gone on I finally feel now that it’s time to go for it, I’m at my physical peak and I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do as a civilian! My point is - if there’s anything that will hold you back from achieving or if your joining as a last resort without thinking it through properly. Don’t join until your absolutely sure your ready!

For anyone in the comments, my names Adam I’ve recently left the British army at 17 after being at afc harrogate for 8 months, my advice for younger people is it’s definitely something everyone should try as it’s some of the best life experience I’ve had however I felt like I wasn’t ready to commit to a life like that at my age however we’re all built different and I’m hoping to go senior entry now, either way everyone should give it a go👍

Thanks for the video mate.

I come from a British army background and looking at joining at the young age of 24. The benefits definitely do outweigh the negatives, you get soo many courses and qualifications no matter what corps you go into, while also earning good wonga and travelling the world. Anyone who is thinking about it, look at the current economic climate and its honestly a no-brainer if you do something you enjoy (trade wise, or infantry). I have family who is serving and have served their full time and miss it every single day, I cant wait to join up, currently in the application process (signals or int)

This was an interesting video, I joined the Army in 1976 at 17 years old, and still remember the wrench of leaving all my life before joining, those I left behind didn't change, I did. Personally, I believe that change was for the better, I grew up going through basic training, and once in a working unit, I turned into the man I am today, and that was someone entirely different to the boy that joined the Army. I now work with students, and can promise that block parties are head and shoulders better than what student life is like.
I think the only shame about today's army is you have far less chance of travel. I spent my entire service overseas, and even once married, I much preferred that to being on home ground.
I would encourage anyone who is not sure, to give it a go, you have very little to lose, but a whole new way of life to gain.

I’m an ex Irish Ranger and joining the Army at a young age is a decision that is bigger than you may think. However for me it was one the best decisions I have made. The Army offered me more than I could ever imagined as regards of further education and courses for almost anything you want to put yourself forward for. I was always the sports type of person, played rugby for my school, judo from a young age, keen swimmer and got involved in many other sports! Did joining the Army prevent me continuing the sports I was so keen on? No, in fact it gave me opportunities to further myself with top Army instructors/courses and the opportunity to gain my AIPT Cross Swords qualification. Judo Coach courses etc etc. The options are there for you. The main thing is your an infantry soldier and that’s what I wanted to be first and foremost! Not everyone makes the grade I’ll be honest, but with hard work and determination you will become part of the best family in the world that goes beyond your service. I regret nothing and have never met another serviceman with any regrets to joining up. We just become brothers forever. If you feel you are what it takes to be a soldier I wish you well 👍🏻 As we say in our Regiment ☘️Faugh A Ballagh☘️

I’m 23 and been thru college twice and thru many basic jobs in all areas from labouring to catering and currently warehouse work. One of my goals later in life is to be financially sweet and I understand that although the army will provide good money and security it won’t make me rich. However it will provide me with valuable life experience and qualifications that will build me into the man I have always dreamt of being. I wanna explore the world create meaningful relationships with people and protect those that cannot. Then when I leave I wanna hopefully take what I’ve learnt and take a leadership role teaching others.

My man joined the Army
Aged 16 Royal Signals 1979-1990 best years of his life! Any young person thinking of joining the military I'd say as an older person go for it. Really best move you can make.

I've watched so many videos on army life and basic training, I am 18 and have going through the extensive recruitment process for about a year and a half now, I like to think if it wasn't for the pandemic I would be done with basic training by now but sadly not.I was really nervous about a year a go so nervous in fact that I missed the first interaction with my local recruiter because I stayed in bed just thinking about it haha, but i'm proud to say a lot has changed in a year I started to do more exercise and pushing to get myself into the desired role I've been wanting to get in.I always had a love and passion for the military and armed forces as a child but my parents were never really supportive of it and wanted me to be a typical child who excelled at school and the education system and progress towards university etc, as to much of their surprise I failed pretty much everything besides construction and lost a lot I guess because of that but I think after a rough two years after high school I pretty much woke up if I didn't wake up and do something I was just going to become a statistic like my parents were pushing me to become.I'm not religious anymore but I have faith that I will be given the go ahead and join.

Met my Partner at 14, joined at 17 I’m not 21, we’re still together, it is possible, it’s just most squaddies want to shag around
PROs: 1. Career progression is better, LCpl at 21/22 whereas older joiners are LCpl at like 26/27, Pay is good for age
CON: Not taken as serious as older lads, Literally no young teen/ young adult freedom

With the last con about being in a relationship. You can always join the reserves! I'm hoping to pass selection next mouth for the reserves. I've also been with my girlfriend for nearly 7 years, so the reserves are the best option if you don't wanna be away for a long period of time. We've also got a guy who did the first 2 months of guards training, and decided to come back to the reserves, due to not wanting to be away from his wife and kids for a long time. He said once he passed out, he would be doing 6 mouths of ceremonial, and then 9 mouths in Iraq.
