Nina Yamada -born and raised in Kamakura, Japan, currently based in London- is a DJ and founder of Jazzy Sport London. Influenced by her father, Nina started to DJ and discover her own sounds through her father's extensive vinyl collections. She specializes in deep house, but her playing crosses over between Afro-beat, Jazz, Latin, Reggae and many other genres.

Jazzy Sport London is a new branch of the Japanese independent record label ‘Jazzy Sport’, aiming to blend the local music scene between Japan and the UK. They currently have residencies at Balamii Radio in London and Tsubaki FM in Tokyo to introduce local DJs. In addition to radio, they have parties all over London: August 4 at Aaja, August 25-28 at Lower Stable Street Market in Kings Cross and September 27 at Grow Hackney!

My musical exploration started with Hip-hop which soon opened up the doors to UK Trip-hop and digging labels such as Ninja Tune and Mo' Wax. Because UK Trip-hop was one reason I moved to London, my selections are centred around down-tempo music in the style of acid jazz to match my current style.

This reminds me of Miles Davis last album Doo Bop. I wish he hadn't passed when he did, we would've gotten to see a lot more of his experiments with Hip Hop

Such a great mix... #still in the '90s ... Was a tremendous step change in musical time. The Acid Jazz label, Brand New Heavies, Incognito, Jamiroquai in UK popularising jazz funk with plenty of groups / individuals like DIG, Swoop, UTE, Dale Barlow, Jackie Orszaczky and many more coming into their own down under.

Bravo Nina, this is a superb and tasty tracklist !
This makes me think of Guru, founding member of Gang Starr. He realised three solo "Jazzmatazz" albums from 1993 to 2000, and they are the perfect exemple of the musical fusion you perform here. He collaborated with many artists, from all over the World, for those masterpiece trilogy (Japan to France, UK to USA, etc.) and your style goes this way yet digging a little deeper.
I encourage everyone to have a listen at those artists you bring, and also Brand new heavies, Incognito, 4hero, Matt Bianco, Digable Planets, Buckshot LeFonque, Us3, and the likes.
The UK scene of the 1990-2005 era was so creative, digging its roots in reggae, soul, funk, jazz, pop, and probably an dozen of other music genres.
Thank you for making this fresh again !

You know what's the problem with this set? It's too short! 😎

Yoo this is by far one my favourite dj's you had on. Superb mix. Feeling very blessed not knowing any of the artists, nor Nina, her labels or anything she does. Its pouring rain outside, the mood is hella comfy inside... the perfect setting for a deep dive into a new musical realm. Thanks for yet another amazing introduction.
