I was always told by hair transplant surgeons that you 1000% need to stay on finasteride post surgery in order to maintain your results. Definitely plan on that for sure.

I’m a 36 year old woman and I’ve been losing hair since I had my last child 5 years ago. My doctor told me “it’s normal shedding.” No! It’s not normal to fill up the shower drain after one hair wash. It’s not normal that I vacuum up more of my hair than that of my two dogs. It’s not normal that my colorist said “wow! I usually go through 120 foils coloring your hair and now I’m only using 80.” (Edit: I got my hair done and we’re down to using 52 foils in my hair and I have also been waiting 4 months between coloring instead of 2 months to avoid as much damage as possible. My colorist and stylist are comfortable coloring my hair because it’s healthy and doesn’t break or fall out much during their service. Which I find so confusing?! Why is it steadily falling out?!)
I’ve been using minoxidil for about a year and I’ve tried Vegamour, Viviscal, vitamins, just everything.
I have an upcoming appointment with a dermatologist and she ordered bloodwork so hopefully we can figure something out because it’s seriously depressing to lose so much hair. Thank goodness I HAD very thick hair so it’s not like I’m balding but still it’s upsetting.

Edit to say thank you for the advice. My gp has ordered bloodwork and it’s all been normal. I thought maybe my thyroid function was off or a hormone imbalance but no. That’s all normal!
Still waiting for my appointment with the dermatologist in 2 days. I’m hoping she had advice or is able to point me in the right direction. I’m growing rather depressed about my hair. I used to get so many compliments from strangers about what nice hair I have and not that I need that validation but the unending massive hair loss is really taking a toll on my self esteem. I know that might be silly because there’s so many more important things to be grateful for but I can’t help the way I feel. I feel really bad about myself.

Thank you for this advice. I’m trans and struggling with my hair loss right now & I’ve been considering the “keeps” formula of finestride & monoxide. I take so many oral meds that I can’t tolerate another tbh

I will also say, as a woman, some men look GOOD bald. Do what you want for yourselves, of course, but sometimes it's a good change as scary as it can be.

Been on oral finasteride for 3 or 4 years, and it didn’t affect my libido at all, and it works great :)

1 mg finasteride daily was studied for two years, didn’t affect libido and stopped the hair loss. If not intended to be used indefinitely it’s a good treatment option to maintain the graft area of hair prior to transplantation.

The transplanted hair is DHT resistant so you don’t lose it !! But u will lose all the hair that you would have naturally but leaving the transparent hair so it would look weird that’s all but that’s if your going to go that level of bald anyway

there’s like a 1% chance of running into side effects on oral finasteride

the likelihood of developing cardiac issues on oral minoxidil is quite high

Honestly 10 years extra is pretty good, my guess is it slowly goes down over the 10 years but still if I was a balding in my mid 30s and was able to push it to mid 40s that is huge.

Recently, topical minoxidil 5% gave me palpitations, chest tightness and chest pain. They had to give me beta blocker and muscle relaxant
