I was 16 and a runaway in the summer of 1970 and when I was camped in a patch of woods in Burien, WA I heard this song coming from a home a block or so away. What a memory! I got tired of running and turned myself in to the local police dept. and they took me to juvy where I stayed for two weeks. My folks decided to "teach me a lesson". I missed the fourth of July and I swore I would never cause my parents any trouble again. I'm glad they loved me that much!

My Wife, Kate, and I often talk about songs that we both consider to be "beach songs." She's a bit older than I am, but we were both at Hampton Beach, NH during the summer months of 1968 - 1972, just on different roads. She with her friends and me with my immediate family. I was (13) years old when this great song was released and, at the time, it was the Beatles, the Beatles, and the Beatles for me. BUT, during the summer months of 1970 the Beatles had just broken up in April and this song took hold of me, held me tighter, and has since never, ever let me go! Every time I hear this song I just close my eyes and I can smell the salt air and the arcade cotton candy on Ocean Blvd., even in the dead of winter. Really fond of this song back in the day. My friend Pat Browne invited me to a trip to Myrtle Beach SC with his mom who was one of my high school teachers and sister Margaret. This song was very popular on the radio and it always reminds me of that trip.
