With respect, it WASNT the wealthy or the famous who did this.
It was average folk, low to middle class, who wanted to remember their loved ones in a peaceful and familiar setting, ie, with their brothers and sisters.
It may seem disturbing to us now, but remember that death rates were much higher then, and death of an infant or young child not at all uncommon, in any class. And death wasn't the sanitised business it is now.
Funeral parlours did not become undertakers until quite late in the century, so families often had the body kept at home until burial. So a very hands on and family affair, hence the Victorian's matter of factness about death. Not a bad thing tbh. ❤

I think that this was the era of "hair jewelry." People liked to make little momentos out of the dearly departed's hair.😢
