Desk Plans - How to Build This Easy Desk

Currently, there is a shortage of desks. With supply chains disruptions from the pandemic and many people working from home, I’ve designed a desk that is easy to build. There are 5 pieces, joined with metal corner brackets and screws.

The next step is sanding. Sand all the pieces smooth and slightly round the edges where the edge banding meets the corner edge of the plywood. Vacuum off all the parts to remove all the dust before applying the protecting finish on the wood. You can also use a tack cloth, which is sticky cheesecloth, to remove the small dust particles.

Now you’re ready to protect the wood with a finish. I recommend using a wipe-on polyurethane as it is easy to apply and forms a strong, durable finish that can take some abuse you expect on a desk. Follow the instructions on the container. You will likely need to apply 2-3 coats. I recommend 6 coats for the top to protect the wood where most of the wear and potential liquid from drinks could damage the top.

What a simple & efficient build. Very well done with the instructions. And I work for a Global Furniture Manufacturer (Swedish) hint hint & we have a minimum 28 day turn around time to get any type of desks in stock at the Hub let alone getting them to the stores!!! Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!

Tip from someone who likes mounting power strips to desks. Check where you plan on putting your desk in relation to the plug in the wall. I've had to remount enough power strips because the desk was a foot too far away for the cord. Or you have to buy a new power strip with a ridiculously longer cord that you have to coil up and hide. So mounting in the center may not be the best place depending on where you put the desk in relation to the plug you intend to use.

I enjoy complex and challenges in projects... The harder it is the more satisfactory I get when it's complete. I do like this desk though...the finish looks great and the style fits a desk design with a clean and simple look... sometimes the simple look is better!! I also with have to try your oil and sanding trick... I have not tried that yet. 💪

How does the hinge bit work in regards to pilot hole depth?
Would a 6 foot version on this desk require major modifications? Could it be taken apart and reassembled to move (awkward door placements in my apartment)?

Thanks for all the videos & hope you have a productive 2021.
