Last Friday my workplace organized a diner for 120 elderly people, when we told them there was advocaat met slagroom, the first six bottles where empty within 20 minutes😂 it was was a party, three course diner, Dries Roelvink, polonaise and lots of laughter

This is what old people eat at birthdays, haha. Back in the days also ‘bowl’ was very popular. You take a bowl and put all sorts of canned fruit in it. With a soup spoon you put it in a small glass teacup and top it off with ‘slagroom’. I sometimes still make it on my birthday, because memories 😅🌸

There’s something similar called Kokkelroom (sold at Albert Heijn, Gall & Gall and other stores) which doesn’t taste as sharp as advocaat. It comes in a jar if I’m not mistaken.

U can try black licorice liquor also. It's very sweet that's why we make our own with vodka and Laurier. It's a pure licorice extract without sugar. My favorite is sweet wood (zouthout) with vodka. This one needs to infuse for at least 3 days or so. If u like the licorice flavor it's awesome.

If you can get hold of it, try Filliers Advokaat, from Belgium. Even better than the Dutch larger brands. It comes in a jar.
