A NASA-funded field study in the molten region of the Greenland ice sheet

A new study has added to the rich explorations of this innovative project. We look back at this daring venture, in which helicopters, floating drifters were sunk into holes in the ice, and all night shifts operate a sonic boogie board in endless daylight. Scientist Larry Smith, then with UCLA and now with Brown University, takes us back to the ice race and important discoveries made with hard-wind data.
