Donald Trump has won a second term as US president, according to Associated Press. The Republican candidate exceeded the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the general election, defeating Democratic candidate and incumbent Vice-President Kamala Harris. The Republican Party also won control of the US Senate. Trump served as US president from 2016 to 2020, when he lost his re-election bid to Democrat Joe Biden. He claimed that the election was rigged and refused to accept the result. Trump campaigned on promises to fix the US economy, deport illegal migrants and cut taxes. He also said he would end the war in Ukraine before his inauguration day in January 2025.
