I've always been of the mind that I should save being hyped for a worthy PR... To the point where I've yet to get hyped for a PR ever... It's almost concerning... Like, I've atrophied my hype gland or something... I doubt I'll ever need it... But it looks fun... Oh no. Lol.

I used to get fired up for squats. Then this guy walked over to me to spot me. He squatted over 770? I think. He told me to stop getting fired up and just think about wtf I'm supposed to be doin. I did. It helped. Thanks to that guy.

I’ve just recently finally found my deadlift form that works perfect for me, so I find I’m better when I’m calm so I can focus on all the right cues before and during the lift

I personally don't need hype, I just lift the shit like my life's on the line and that's it.

Totally agree. I’ll use some upbeat music to warm up, but I usually end up listening to things a bit more chill to help keep me grounded.

Saw a guy do this in the gym last week with 545 and he hit it but it was an ugly grinder with questionable form. He also took about 5 sniffs of smelling salts. Man’s was wild.

Dude is channelling his inner KBooey spirit.

Just like the other video of basically “putting your mind to it” can make a difference in performance to some degree, it has recently worked out appearing calm but really focused and somewhat internally hyped from music… cause gym playlists are shit and distracting lol

That kneeling half pull did make for a good magic trick.

I focus more on high volume HIIT than low rep powerlifting, but I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that I perform better calm.

i just need time to get the mental preparation to do it. when doing heavy loads, if the mind is not ready for the commitment, you may fail

Dude I be chilling before attempting a PR lmao

Yeah the energy loss is real. Lifting is about transcending the physical in a way, but that is to say that too much physical stimulation or agitation can cause the body to actually limit you

I prefer getting calm, helps me focus on training with intention

I noticed Ivan Djuric kneels down and lift the bar before he does deadlift like this person in the video. I wonder what benefits you get from doing it. To me I feel like I would be wasting my energy before the rep.

If I get hyped up, I find myself forgetting cues and simply focused on getting the weight up which resulted in a hip injury.

Getting hyped up has never worked for me. I end up losing focus on getting tight.

I do some cardio before lifting so being really hyped mobile and energized really helps
