At New York Comic Con 2017, a cosplaying Kya Quinn sat down with Todd McFarlane to get the dirt on his upcoming ‘Spawn’ movie, including what he might have planned for former ‘Spawn’ star Keith David.
Todd McFarlane’s Spawn is one of the defining comics of the ‘90s, and the news recently broke that Todd McFarlane will be directing a new Spawn movie in the next couple of years. To finance the new Spawn Movie, Blumhouse, producer of Get Out and Paranormal Activity will be producing the Spawn movie reboot. Our NYCC 2017 interview with Todd has revealed all kinds of Spawn movie updates and Spawn movie news we didn’t have previously, including the new horror inspired take on Al Simmons and Spawn. Blumhouse are masters of modern horror, so the Spawn movie reboot is definitely in good hands, just like the Spawn movie is back in the rightful hands of Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. Spawn has never been a traditional superhero, but the Spawn movie remake will take Todd McFarlane Spawn even farther away from this superhero roots.
The new Spawn Blumhouse movie will be taking a departure from the traditional Image Comics Spawn superhero antics, but there might still be a familiar face involved. Todd McFarlane gave us a small Spawn movie preview by telling us that their might be a cameo for Keith David, star of the Spawn HBO animated series, though this movie will be far from a Spawn cartoon. In our Todd McFarlane interview, we also learned more about his horror influences, as well as what Jason Blum will bring to the table from a horror movie standpoint. Spawn new movie will definitely be different from what we might expect from a Spawn reboot, but it sounds extremely cool regardless. Whether it’s the Spawn comics, the 1997 Spawn movie, or the HBO Spawn animated series, the character of Spawn has an enduring legacy for comics, horror, and everything in between. Spawn creator Todd McFarlane is extremely passionate about his beloved Spawn character, and we can’t wait to see what his vision for the new Spawn horror movie.
