My mother was 10 when this happened. She still talks about her experience of it when there’s hurricanes.

I remember. I think I was barely 7. We went to a shelter in San Antonio. But when we came back only my aunt’s house was still standing. The hurricane ripped the roof off our house and sucked everything out. I also remember LBJ flew over on a plane to inspect and I waived at the plane. He was from South Texas himself so 6 months later the government built us a new home. I also remember the mosquitoes. They were everywhere from the standing water.
