How to get here?

1. You can hire a car & drive from Positano, it’s about a 4-hour drive from there, and there’s free parking in Matera outside of the city.
2. Alternatively, if you can't drive, you can take a bus or Taxi to Salerno, Salerno is the closest major city with better transportation connections.
**Then, the Train from Salerno to Bari: The train journey takes around 2-3 hours, depending on the type of train.
**Then Train or Bus from Bari to Matera: takes around 1 hour.

Keep in mind that in both options you will have to walk with your suitcase to your accommodation which can be tricky with the stairs 😅.

Matera's historical center, known as "Sassi di Matera," is the oldest city in Italy and one of the oldest in the world too! It’s had movies like James Bond filmed there and it is absolutely stunning.
