Just wanted to say thanks! Your video saved me big time. Some jerk stole my girlfriend's 96 Accord's battery and then to make matters worse, the hood latch cable was disconnected completely, so when we got a replacement battery we couldn't even get in there. Like you said, I was able to open it without destroying/removing the grill. I did however have to deal with a black plastic cover that was preventing me from accessing that little hole. I shimmied an extra long flathead screwdriver between that plastic cover and the metal compartment that has the latch mechanism and was able to pop that cover off. Then the key was watching your motion to pull the trigger. I highly recommend to anyone to stick in a small flathead screwdriver in like he did from the bottom lefthand corner pointing upwards to the top right, and then once you're in, pulling your hand to the top righthand corner of the hole so that inside, you're basically pulling the trigger from the right to the left. That did it for me. Thanks again!

Thank u much! Some jerk stole my 96 Accord's battery and the hood latch cable was disconnected completely. Just when the buyer was coming to get the car. The buyer brought a replacement battery but we couldn't open the hood. Buyer left the battery and gave me a few days to figure out a way to open the hood. After hours of looking on the internet, plus being a girl who doesn't know much about cars I was ready to give up and junk it. Till l watched your video, grabbed a few different items/tools that could work and gave it a within 15 minutes got it opened! Thanks for sharing it's very much appreciated!

Life saver! My 1995 Accord has a plastic grille piece covering the little opening so I did have to break it off, but once I did I stuck a screwdriver in that latch access hole thingy and after two days of frustration I finally popped it open. I'm going to access it this way from now on, but will get a new grille from the junkyard and drill an access hole for the latch override thingy you've discovered. Thanks again. You saved me who knows how much money and another whole day of car downtime having fixed it myself instead of taking it to a garage!

Dude you are awesome. I had this problem about a year ago, and had the cable fixed after going on YouTube and not finding the answer. This was quick easy and painless and was not in any of the videos did I found the first time around. Again thank you so much

Great vid.  One extra tip i found out after watching this....my screwdriver kept hitting the center grill support, so i reached up there behind the hole with my index finger and pulled the lever back.   So in case you dont have the right screwdriver just try that.   Best vid ive seen about this problem.  Had given up when i came across it  Thumbs up!

Thanks for the video. I was in the middle of changing my oil in my 97 Accord and had all the oil drained. I was getting pissed and trying to figure out what to do. Seen your video and got a good laugh out of the bike horn. Thanks again

I got some good inspiration from this video to open my Toyota Echo 2000 hood. The hood curves down more than the Accord, so I had no choice but to remove the grill. Cracked it a bit but I got it back on with some zip ties. After a little fiddling around I felt a small spring loaded lever on the back of the latch assembly that released the hood. Thanks for the video.

Hey Carlos Bernal, I understand your frustration with those punks that damaged and stole parts from your mom's car. I would just like to point out that most people will use this video with good intentions. I believe that most people are inherently good. We shouldn't stop sharing instructional videos because some people might use them to harm. I think somebody who wants to steal or vandalize a car is going to do it any way. The problem is not a video that he might have seen on youtube but it's his punk ass mindset and poor choice of peers.

Thanks! The ball had come loose from my latch, and this trick let me open the hood so I could try to fix it.  My 2002 Accord had a plastic cover on the latch mechanism, but that was held in place by a simple plastic pin I could pop from outside the grill, then move away to access the latch mechanism.  Definitely saved me time, money, and sanity.

USE A LAUNDRY If my car has same issue as yours but I did something really simple. Inside the car I also lifted the Latch to try to release/open the hood but it wouldn't open... And.. The latch was loose like yours in the video. So I solved the problem: I just kept the Latch up by using a laundry "Clothes-Pin" standing Verticle ----on the floor, directly under the latch, to hold it UPward, and I CAN just open the hood as normally you would.

Thank you very much, wasn't having any luck using a flatbar to try to pry it up on my 96 Accord. Much easier to flush the coolant when the hood opens. Second chemical flush, looks like coffee again. Hoping the heater core isn't blocked and the cause of no heat was just the thermostat which was missing when I bought the car
