HJ-9, or Hong Jian-9, or Red Arrow-9, developed by China North Industries Corporation (Norinco). It is similar in appearance to the Israeli man portable anti-tank system (MAPATS), causing speculation about the link between the two missiles. It is also similar to the South African ZT3 Ingwe anti-tank missile. Like the MAPATS and ZT3, the HJ-9 is guided by laser beam riding.

Would not want to be in a tank with this weapon that could go thru 1200 mm steel. Certainly more transportable than the German 88 mm Flak anti tank cannon that was so famous on the battlefield.

No comment on how many missiles work or don't work but if it's like their other weapon systems you wonder if this is something to fear or laugh at. The future will reveal the truth.

Israeli and the South African version are actually basically the same weapon. With those two it is also hard to tell who came up with what, but they are using similar weapons all the time. Israeli and South African arms industry are highly interwoven since the eighties. Israel delivered some of it's obsolete or disused weapons to China in the nineties to gain access to the Chinese market just like France and Russia. But unlike the Russian Federation the Israeli knew they were going to be building a version of their own so in stead of directly selling them weapons they gave them a payed license to produce them. These are actually quite good for Chinese weapons and only half don't work usually it is two thirds.
