TAIPEI — A carbon-eating, eco-friendly skyscraper in Taipei is expected to be completed in September. The designer says he hopes the structure can help battle air pollution and global warming.

The Tao Zhu Yin Yuan Tower, designed by Paris-based Vincent Callebaut Architectures, features one central core tower with two helicoidal towers around it. The design was inspired by the double helix of a DNA strand.

The 21-story tower features 40 luxury condos, hallways with glass flooring and a swimming pool. The 1,000 m² photovoltaic roof will convert solar energy into electricity for the building. Rainwater will also be collected and recycled in the building.

Some 23,000 trees and shrubs will fill the tower’s facade, roof and balconies. The plants reportedly will absorb 130 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, which is the equivalent of about 27 cars.

“Outlandish and futuristic as they may seem, the core of all my designs is an attempt to address the real threat that cities pose for humankind and our ecological balance,” architect Vincent Callebaut told CNN.

So all we need is a building and put tons of trees in it and it will become eco friendly?

If it really work we need more of this building type

Who wants to bet that the taxpayer was stuck with the entire bill for the wood stadium, but some millionaire who owns the sports team got the majority of the wealth? That happens in several cities across the USA.

I'm sure the most profitable Aerofarm will be in Colorado, where the technology enables people to get the best high out of every single marijuana plant.

Just 27 cars per year? That is extremely, I mean extremely, extremely LOW. Seriously. One building will not make almost no difference. They would have to build thousands of those buildings to see differences in their air pollution.
