123/365 ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA PART TWO - HONEST MEN (1991)

During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.

Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
Today’s choice is Honest Men by Electric Light Orchestra Part Two before the band’s name was shortened to ELO Part II. Disillusioned by a lack of ELO output (Jeff Lynne had effectively given up on the original group in 1986), Bev Bevan reached agreement to formally disband ELO in 1989, with Bevan being permitted to reform the group minus Lynne under this new name. Given that to many fans Lynne was ELO, expectations were low as to what might follow, but this first single featuring Eric Troyer on lead vocals should have allayed fears as it was of a very high standard.
Sadly by 1991 most ELO fans had given up on the group, with this release only reaching no. 60 in the UK which is a real shame as the new entity would record two quality studio albums and have successful worldwide tours.
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something completely different!
