Super Petrel Light Sport Seaplane

Super Petrel is an amphibious biplane that is capable of landing on both land and water. Thanks to Roger from Super Petrel USA for letting us check out this aircraft.

Super Petrel is unlike any other sea plane out there that is also a light sport aircraft. First by the design, this plane has two wings. And the second wing is not just for looks it actually helps stabilize the airplane in flight and in stall situations. We practiced stalls on my demo flight and I couldn’t even tell if the airplane was stall because we were still flying even after those stall horns kept going off.

Who is this aircraft for? well I think for the more relaxed pilot who wants to grab a bite here and there. It is a capable cross country aircraft as it will stay flying for 6 hours if you can take it. Also it uses a small rotax 912 engine which powers you to 80-100 miles per hour in cruise.

With the engine that far behind you, did you think the cabin noise was any less than a conventional front engine?

I've always liked the Super Petrel. It's superior to the Icon A5 in all the areas that I consider important, and it's hell of a lot cheaper to boot.
