The grand scale and magnificent acoustics of the Roman arena in Verona are ideally suited to the pageantry of Verdi's Egyptian opera, presented here in a staging that is true to the original 1913 production, framed by obelisks and sphinxes and filled with chorus and dancers. Chinese soprano Hui He has won international acclaim for her portrayal of the eponymous slave girl whose forbidden love for the war hero Radamés (Marco Berti, the experienced Verdi tenor) brings death to them both.

Ero presente, peccato non trovare tutta l'opera intera. Grazie per averla pubblicata, ci andavo ogni anno ma ormai da 2 anni a questa parte i registi "futuristi" hanno dato il colpo di grazia per rendere la rappresentazione una specie di farsa carnevalesca e squallida, priva della magia e bellezza di un tempo.

Aida vor leeren Rängen. Schade um die schöne Kulisse. War das eine Generalprobe? (Corona?) Als ich Aida vor 29 Jahren in Verona, mit der tollen ägyptischen Kulisse sah, war das aber ne ganz andere Hausnummer. Da hat die Arena gebrodelt.
