My wife Jean worked for Chandris in their London office in around the period 1968/1971. We were privileged to have sailed on the Australis on a cruise around the Mediterranean and we had the most fabulous time. What a beautiful ship the Australis is, even now she has gone. So sad.

Our family came to Australia in 1966.We arrived in Melbourne and went by train to Adelaide our new home on 6/6/1966. It was great trip, we had a lot of fun.The interior was in the lovely Art Deco style. Watching this I had a tear in my eye! My parents would have loved to have seen this, sadly they died a few years ago. Ken Dutch

49 years ago today (Dec 13th 1973) I arrived in Perth Western Australia along with My Parents and 2 older brothers, My Grandparents and my Mother's Younger Brother and new Wife. I was 6 years old and still remember vividly the journey and this incredible ship. The daily school work and the clown show we rehearsed and performed for the passengers to keep us kids entertained and occupied. I remember the onboard cinema where me and my brother's watched 'Oliver' and 'The Railway Children' multiple times. I still remember the lovely fresh smell of the bread roles and chicken soup during dinner service (I was 6 lol) Both my Grandparents have passed on but I have memories of them getting front row seats and hilariously getting covered with water, flour and eggs for 'Neptunes Crossing' as the Australis cruised across the Equator. All of this to arrive as immigrants in a new country, a choice both my parents never regretted and the best decision they made in establishing our new and forever home.

Have clear memories of AUSTRALIS in Sydney and Melbourne when I was a boy, such a shame she ended her years aground off the Canary Islands.

Having seen the Australis in all her incarnations one can never forget the beauty of this one of a kind ship. Over the years there were some subtle and not so subtle changes, in-spite of that she maintained the majestic romantic nature of the liner’s of that period with a great silhouette. When ships were the means of travel, a little like buses. BUT BEAUTIFUL BUSES .

I sailed with my family in March 1967 to Auckland NZ. Wonderful memories with photos I have as I was only six & cannot remember much of it. We went via the Suez Canal before the war. Golden age of cruising.

Such beautiful photos and memories. My parents and I sailed out of Sydney on Australis on July 22nd 1969 for Acapulco. We then drove across to Florida and joined her on her next circumnavigation in Miami snd finally disembarked in Southampton. We sailed home to Sydney on Ellinis. I was too young to remember any detail of our 18 months away ❤
