Why yes, I do leave of the “Metropolitan” off the name of the cookbook in my intro, thanks for asking! Anywho, 1922’s Metropolitan Methodist Episcopal Cook Book is back and this time we’re making a Surprise Sandwich. Not sure why it’s named that. I was expecting something like kippered herring and peanut butter. Not, cream cheese, orange marmalade, and pecans. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful it wasn’t the former. Just puzzled by the name.

A double plus up? Madness. Chaos. Anarchy.

If someone offers you a surprise sandwich, always say no. You'll wake up in a tub full of ice.

The nuts, ginger and 5 spice go into the Magic Bullet to be ground up, then mixed with cream cheese & marmalade and spread on a brioche bun. Decadent tea sandwich

I used to work catering and we had a chicken salad option with orange marmalade and pecans and it was AMAZING. I don't remember the whole recipe, regretfully, but I still dream about it. I do know that the chicken breasts were marinated in a sweet teriyaki style sauce before being grilled and added to the salad. Sigh. So good.

My mom grew up in Europe and when we were little, she'd make us sandwiches with some kind of cream cheese I can't find to this day (it was like halfway between cream cheese and yoghurt -- spreadable but runny and very tangy) and whatever jam or jelly we had around. Strawberry, blueberry, orange marmalade. And it was SO GOOD.

This one inspired me to go nuts :D I mixed mango chutney, chopped walnuts and cream cheese, then spread the mixture on toasted wheat bread. After tasting it, I decided to add a couple of slices of Campari tomatoes, added salt and pepper and it was pretty good. Cheers fellow sammich lovers!

0:42 “[chuckles to self for some reason]” I appreciate the captions and feel like they give a fun extra layer to some of the videos, like todays. 👍🏻 [thumbs up for some reason]

that sounds really good! I would've plussed it up by adding salt to the mix, and toasting the bread

I never thought of how versatile sandwiches could be. It's eye opening.

toasting and buttering the bread would do wonders with this one

Raisin bread and nutmeg with the original filling sounds good.

We use goat cheese and dried cranberries and several with hot ham on a crunchy roll. A holiday staple.❤😊

Reminds me of Castello cheese in the UK, like a ring of cream cheese flavoured with pineapple and rolled in chopped almonds, never tried it in a sandwich though

my plus-up for this one would be: Toast both sides in a pan with butter.

I'm usually skeptical of any food that has "surprise" in the name, because the surprise is usually...questionable, at best. This, though, doesn't seem that bad, and the double plussed-up version seems tasty.

I've been noticing a lot of "church lady cookbook" action on the channel lately! Not a bad thing at all from the look of it!

It's a great day when there's a double plus up.

Guys I'm just saying but: most youtubers don't say "see ya tomorrow" on every video and have it be true lol

His endorsement of ginger and orange has me googling cocktails with ginger and orange juice.
