Looking at the scroll wheel, I'm guessing one (or both) of two things happened: A) they improved the bearings so it runs smoother, or B) the fact that the ridges on the wheel are smaller means that the compressed air can't get it rolling as fast. Bigger ridges = more surface for the air to blast against = faster potential spin speed.
