1:16 "If I had seen it coming I would have been able to help, but I just got out early." Not being there and adding to the crowd is probably the best thing you could have done.

I was there in 2009, those streets got insane on a regular basis. It seeming "normal" is part of what made it so dangerous.

Something is wrong here.
The sinking of the Jewol Ferry and now this.

The authority has to act fast to prevent more avoidable disaster from happening...

RIP to those can't make it in Itaewon..

It honestly was failure on all levels, all the way from the top to the bottom, aka. most of the crowds themselves.

In where I live an incident like this almost happened but there were a group of people who decided to take action and did crowd control asking people to queue nicely and one by one walk and slowly don't push I respect those group of people who volunteered freely even it was an holiday eve crowd surge

Actually there were 79 emergency calls indirectly concerning about the situation at the day. However the government just defined it as an accident, not a disaster and they regulated government departments to use the word disaster.

What about responsibility of those young people who shouted "PUSH" and who caused the whole incident in the first place? Those people are directly responsible for this tragedy.

The same government behind the horrific ferry accident that claimed hundreds of children’s lives. Sad

Stay away from the large crowd. Stop putting blames on officers. Nothing could’ve stop this chaos from happening. Learn from the mistakes

The police has to resign, not just apologize.

That fact that there is a HILL slope in this super tight alley was a receipe for disaster. This dangerous alley should have been closed off or made one-way only.

So heartbreaking. I feel them. As a human, and global citizen.
SK is high in resources and so this should not happen. Its not resources issue.

I do not think that the Police will want to see the tragedy. Lots of past huge events even unofficial have happened before. And they saw how the crowd grew larger in CCTV. CCTV in SK is the best in technology globally. So its not tech issues

I think the Police are trained for any disaster, tragedy or emergency. So its not skills issue.
Police official apologized? There is a bigger picture than this?

THIS is a decision making ISSUE. SOME officials decided NOT to do an action at the time it was needed by SK citizens. Some decision makers or officials had an intention to create chaos?

Just like in any power games between people sitting in power,   they only greed for more power, and the citizens are always the victims.
Hope its not.  RIP. Be Strong Seoul.

Just odd how the media  talks on war military games, missile tests and yet this happen. Its Not Balanced. SK have military power for war via international alliance. But huge crowd events are uncontrollable?

Police knows that if they didn't come out with an acknowledgment then the situation will likely grow worse considering the public is already furious. Let's this unfortunate event be a wake up call not just for the police but to all agencies and organizers.
