These 4 USELESS Abilities Need BUFFS

These 4 abilities have no use in competitive Pokemon, so I'm hoping for some pretty huge buffs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet... How would you change them?

I just think it would be funny if Ball Fetch worked like Lightning Rod for ballistic moves except it that it didn't prevent damage. Maybe it's just the image of Yamper jumping in front of a +4 Aura Sphere because it looks like a ball only to be turned into one of Cruella's hats.

Run Away would actually become a very common ability on a great pokemon: Ponyta-kanto, in little cup, who has to fear the ever-present diglett trapping it and KOing it with earthquake.

Ball fetch could be cool as like a combination of Dancer and Instruct, where if an allied pokemon uses a ball move & you have a mon with Ball Fetch on the field, they use that move again. It would probably be broken but idk

My idea for buffing Illuminate is turning it similar to Bulletproof, but for shadow and darkness moves. Shadow Ball, Shadow Sneak, Dark Pulse, etc. The explanation being that the light emmited erradicates the shadows before it can reach the user. I think it's a very good ability without being overpowered.

Honey Gather would be really useful too if honey could be consumed by the Pokémon holding it. Make Honey an item that raises the Sp.Attack and Speed of a Bug Pokémon by 1 when its HP goes below 25%, and also restores a bit of HP, like a 12'5% or so. Focus Sash Honey Gather Rimbombee could be wild with Quiver Dance, while not broken at all due to its frailty that makes it susceptible to be obliterated with a priority attack or an Scarfer before it can start building up boosts

The run away buff is so obvious that I always thought it was a core part of the ability, but no, It's useless in battle

8:20 That's interesting because I always go with the opposite side of things to how Flash works as an HM and thought it would be cool if Illuminate were like Intrepid Sword but for Accuracy.

I've always thought Illuminate should grant the pokemon immunity to dark type moves. Currently dark is so spammable since nothing's immune to it and it would give Illuminate users a really useful niche as a switch in to Knock Off

As a bonus, if Scarlet and Violet brings back Pursuit, the Run Away ability should make you immune to Pursuit trapping

I really like Ball Fetch for when I try to catch something in a rare balls like Apriballs or the even rarer Safari/Sport balls

I’m not sure if it’d actually be good, but I could almost see Ball Fetch working by having Yamper pick up any items that get dropped by either Knock Off, Fling, or even Corrosive Gas if Yamper itself isn’t holding an item. Yamper can’t learn any of these moves on its own, so it’d only work in Doubles and would work thematically for “playing fetch” (but if other Pokémon were to get Ball Fetch, who knows what would happen)

I agree with buffing Run Away by making Pokémon capable of escaping from trapping moves and abilities, like Bind, Infestation, Mean Look, Shadow Tag, and Arena Trap.
Your idea for Honey Gather is pretty clever.
For Illuminate, I would either have the ability increase the power and/or accuracy of light-based moves, or have it be like Effect Spore where the Pokémon with this ability lowers the attacker's accuracy by one stage whenever they're hit by an attacking move.

the fact that Run Away doesn't give the Shed Shell effect feels like such an odd omission
for Ball Fetch, i think an interesting idea would be turning it into a redirect move a la Storm Drain, but for ball moves, bomb moves, and Fling. it would need to be put on a tankier pokemon, perhaps, but it seems like a neat kind of thematic protection ability. alternatively, letting a Pokemon retreive an item that has been affected by Knock Off or Fling also seems like a great idea
i love the idea of Honey Gather allowing you to utilize more innaccurate moves. if it stays on some Bug-types or Flying-types, imagine them shooting out a much more accurate Hurricane...
and that Illuminate idea is freaking gold

I'd thought of this stuff before, i think ball fetch could act as pick-up but for an ally in doubles, restoring a lost or used item to them at the end of the turn

Honey Gather for me should work like Leftovers but will only activate whenever the mon doesn't use an attacking move in a turn. So logic is it gathers some honey and eats it whenever it has time.

Shed shell has been an item for which prevents trapping and yet they still haven't given that effect to run away 😤

The runaway change Makes alot of sense. My first thought was that it would basicly be an inverse suction Cups. Just instead of not getting phazed out one cant be Trapped. It would just make sense

Ball Fetch being a self influenced Pickup that allows you to always recycle Fling Iron Ball would be very niche, but would give Yamper a strong dark move. Combine it with speed boost in response to fetching and it can snowball for Little Cup

with the illuminate ability you're suggesting, you could baton pass a substitute to an illuminate pokemon and get at least 1 free hit of no damage

I definitely like the Honey Gather suggestion, and it could be made more effective by widening Ribombee's moveset. It's a cute Fairy, so why not give it Sweet Kiss (75% accuracy)? Poison Powder wouldn't fit, but if it gets Stun Spore, why not Sleep Powder? Hell, let it use Hurricane! The butterfly and moth Pokemon get Compound Eyes Hurricane, so why can't Ribombee do the same?
