How drone technology is changing warfare | BBC News

As wars rage in the Middle East and in Europe, a new technology arms race has emerged in drone technology.

Primarily developed for surveillance and intel purposes, drones are now increasingly being used to carry out precise and lethal attacks.

But how does drone warfare work? And how far will the technology go?

In this week’s Security Brief, former senior British officer and assault helicopter pilot Mikey Kay, talks us through the use of drones in modern warfare – and how forces around the world are defending against them.

The V1 was an early form of cruise missile propelled by a pulse jet engine, not a rocket. RAF pilots used the wing tipping manoeuvre when they ran out of ammo. It wasn't the only way they were downed. A lot of the time they were shot out of the sky.

Technically, the V1 wasn't rocket powered, but had a pulse jet engine. Its bigger cousin V2 was rocket powered (a pioneering ballistic missile). V1 was a pioneer of cruise missiles.
