V11E5: Getting to Know the Camp-X

This episode kicks off with impressions of the Jeep Gladiator Sport, which was my rental vehicle while my own Jeep was being serviced at OK4WD in New Jersey. I consider the viability and merits of a pick-up truck based overland travel platform. Rin takes us on a tour of the 2020 Overland Explorer Camp-X slide-in camper for full-size trucks. Back in my orange Jeep, I go over the work that was performed, including maintenance to the Webasto Air Top 2000 STC gasoline heater. A shorter episode than usual this week to spend time catching up with family!

Good information on the Camp X camper. Yes it’s pricey but a loaded Four Wheel pop top camper is the same or more. I like the fit, finish and overall build of Camp X much more than the Four Wheel line up of pop tops

love these things, they are made right here in my hometown, good quality units for sure and built to handle anything nature throws at it

So far I love my Gladiator! I had a 2011 wrangler 2 door 6 speed. And a 2013 wrangler 2 door 6 speed. So I went with a 6 speed again. But so far my 2021 Gladiator is a lot of fun. Been having a lot of fun catching up on your adventures Chris! Take care

I lean towards an adventure trailer, like a Turtleback, manufactured in Arizona. My dream camper would be a Patriot X-3, but you talk expensive....whewww! Great to see your videos. Enjoy time with your friends and family & continued health & safe travels! 😎👍

Chris it’s always nice to look at alternatives. Sometimes you discover how a few years make a world of difference. Other times you find what you already have is perfectly adequate, and with a bonus it’s paid for...
Really nice to have you back producing content, stay safe wherever your headed.

Good to see it's not just a local issue here in Australia where prices get insane because you have the word 'Overland' in it ...

A tarp over my rear door on my yukon with a pole holding the open end up and a little buddy heater is all i need.

TFL trucks has a fully decked out Ford Tremor with a camper set up for overlanding for sale. They built it as a test truck for their you tube channel. I'm sure it is super low low mileage. It is for sale at TFL Bids. Solid front axel w/ detachable swaybar.

When it comes to "slide in" campers i think having a flatbed is the only way to go so you can get the camper with more space that doesn't have to have cut ins for the fender well.

As per FCA though, Power Wagons are forbidden to have a camper in them, they handed me a piece of paper that explicitly stated this when we got the one we had (2016). It has to do with the springs, from what an engineer from Ram said.

Howdy:) I just found your lovely channel. TY for all your inspiration & information that you share 🙏 Also, if I could choose any dry camper it would definitely be the Alu -Cab....what a dream vehicle!

While it was shorter than most of your videos, it was certainly a fun video to watch, and packed with good content and information.
Happy holidays Chris. Take care and enjoy your journey.

Nice to see you again. Glad you could help out OK4WD. Just a short hop to Nebraska, huh? Joys of photo editing.

I agree that the Ram or similar type truck is the next step if you want to go bigger. I to want to change it up. Good luck with Orangie. She has been a great platform.

Good to see ya! The Camp X is nice, but $$$$. Did you drive through nail factory? That’s crazy, 5 in one tire...
