This is no less than I would have expected from Norm Macdonald. He was so confident in his comedic ability and reputation that he could get up there and roast the roast itself by bombing on purpose with the corniest old-fashioned insults he could find. Genius.

This is one of the best moments in comedy history. The producers told Norm to be "as shocking as possible, " thinking he would continue the roast's theme of dirty, mean jokes. Norm was such a genius that he knew it would be much more shocking to unload the lamest, hokiest dad jokes he could come up with. The result is absolutely hilarious.

For those who don't understand what's going on here. He's telling corny, horrible, outdated, borderline unfunny jokes and absolutely owning them (as he loved to do) (he loved embracing the awkwardness and the fact that people did not understand his humor. that's what's so funny. All the comedians know what going on. And the audience is confused. Just. as. intended.
