2023 MINI Clubman Untold Edition | Appreciation for MINI Tenets

MINI doesn’t break down its car sales by model but sufficed to say the Clubman is bringing up the rear. The higher-riding, SUV-styled Countryman has relegated the Clubman to ultra-niche status and as such MINI is expected to end production in 2024. But for iconoclasts the Clubman is quite possibly the perfect foil to automotive conformity and this new special edition cements its individuality.

MSRP as-tested: $44,400

I recently had a 2022 Clubman S as a rental. It was my first experience with a Mini. Fun little car with a premium feel and lots of nice features.

I've lways been a Mustang guy. Recently got a 2018 Clubman S All4 manual and I'm hooked. What a great car and I can drive it in the Ohio winters!

Friendly counterpoint here. He says "that level of power doesn't cut it anymore" 3:09. Sure it does. For daily driving on streets and highways it has more than enough power for the average driver. Zero to Sixty in 6.6 seconds is not slow by any means. This is not some old car on wooden wheels after all. Then he states he wishes the handling had a bit more "verve" 4:23. It has plenty of 'verve' and handles like a go-kart. 99% of drivers will run out of driving skill long before they run out of car. Bottom line is today's car is more capable than the actual driver.

This car in JCW is devastating powerful and fun to drive

This can’t be true. No mini has EVER been untowed.

Hello?

Hello?

Seriously, thanks for a great review. I always want the smallest wheels I can get on a car, but those are pretty cool.

I love the little 'S' on the grill! An indicator I will not be driving this at a snail's pace!
When going to Whole Foods I am sure people will smile and say "look at that escargot!" if I decide to buy one.

Did you say $40K? Make that closer to $60K+ here in the Philippines and units are being snapped up here.

I was glad to find I'm not the only one who calls the cargo space "18 cubic feet". It's listed as "17.9". I always wonder how, or why, they would be that precise? It's not like there's a WALL between the back portion and the 2 front seats! Just call it an even 18!

6.6 second 0-60 is not slow. Sorry, but when a Civic Si can only do that in 7.2 seconds, 6.6 in the real world is plenty fast. People are getting ridiculous with 0-60 times now.

Shame they got rid of the touchpad which you would write on. I was a huge MINIac with the R-series but unfortunately it feels like every new one that comes out is a step back. Still a cool car overall but man it could be better

The fact 6.6s to 60 is considered slow now is crazy

I put a deposit on final edition clubman. Is it worth it ? Only 88 in the USA being available. Or is the money better spent on a JCW ?

Not sure how 6.5 0-60 in a family car is considered slow, but the DCT in the new MINIs is very responsive. making the car feels even quicker.

Hi Steve - I am a long time subscriber! I am a die hard BMW/MINI fan and I have been working for BMW since 2015. All 2023 MINI's STILL DOES NOT OFFER I don't know why they STILL do NOT offer blindspot across their line up... it's NOT funny anymore. I can't tell you how many customers (mainly families who want to get their son/daughter their first car) have walked out of the dealership because they offer NO blind spot in 2022/2023. Their "MINI's are small and thus do not need blindspot monitoring" excuse is starting to get old and irritating. That said, for those who want to buy a NEW MINI, I encourage you to carefully look at the Window Sticker and make sure your Mini has what you want/need - the part shortage is still ongoing. The Clubman is actually my favorite MINI, but I think BMW/MINI needs to really upgrade MINI's Safety Tech.

Hey Steve still doing solid reviews, Mini is just so overpriced now, no blind spot monitoring, no rear cross traffic alert, just AEB and with an emergency alert I just drove a Kia niro sx top of the line trim only front wheel drive but 36, 000 loaded getting 53 mpg. Plus regular gas vs 91 premium for the mini. All the best to you and your family for the holidays . The Albany Flash It’s either the niro or the new 2023 Prius being launched at the LA Auto show today and Tom.

Steve, how did you read my mind? I've been contemplating a new clubman s/jcw to replace my '19 wrx. Sure the mini is smaller despite the long roof. I miss my GTI, but long for the bigger "boot". The WRX trunk is ok but has a shallow opening. I might be ready for the MINI lifestyle, but it has to have 3 pedals. This untold one is in Golf.:R and WRX-GT territory price wise 🤨

Steve outta all cars you review, I could see you purchasing a Mini! Suits you too

😂 yeah my car went into the shop and the loaner car that they gave me was the Untamed Countryman I know it's not the same but I am not paying 45k for an X1 BMW. I have a 2016 Countryman now and I got it because of the quirkiness of the car, BMW has made the car better but it has lost its character. An unfortunate set of circumstances and that's my two cents I hope this made sense.... I wanted to get another Mini, but I'm not going to get a late model one I probably will get something close to 2020

For 45k, you would have to REALLY want a MINI to pick it over a Golf R or for less money, the GTI. There's just not enough here outside of the style.
