Have you heard about the unemployment applications surging recently? It's becoming a real concern.

Hot take: AI abilities are overstated and will not be able to perform tasks as well as advertised without human beings assisting the computers. Employers will be begging employees to come back in a year or two

What I don’t understand behind this thinking is if AI takes all the jobs, people who are unemployed can no longer buy goods and services. Where do these companies think their profit and money will come from if no one can buy anything?

Where I work the mass layoffs happened at the end of the year. 90 percent of my department was wiped out. I "survived, " but I don't think for one minute that my job is "safe" because I wasn't on the chopping block last time.

"Xerox has also announced layoffs". To be honest, I didn't even realize that they were still in business.

First of all, this whole economic chaos was powered by optimism that the FED is done with hiking interest rates. Now that interest rate crash is the situation, where do we go from here? How would you advise I safely allocate $250k funds at this point?

WARN isn’t always useful as companies will lay off people in small numbers to avoid having to use it so sometimes an employee will never see it coming until it’s too late.

My employer did a 25% layoff at the end of November, and a good chunk of that included people working on developing AI-based features for our product. The CEO announced a retention bonus for everyone who stays on until the end of August 2024, but at least a couple of managers (including mine) have announced they're leaving. It kind of makes me feel like I'm starting at a new company again, because so many familiar faces are gone.

Most companies are constantly laying off under the radar, ie. letting go of small amounts of employees to avoid having to do WARN. So I haven't found WARN to be that useful.

Google already laid off 12.000 last year. Must be scary to have only 3 billion on their bank account. I'm disgusted by those multi billion companies who have enough money still pushing loyal staff into poverty.

I follow this guy and watch his videos. Not even a week ago he said that layoffs would be light this year. Point is, no one knows what’s going to happen. Fear creates clicks.

Looks like it's happening. Just had a mass layoff at Tesla and I was one of them sadly. Now to binge your videos because it's now a life after layoff for me.

My hospital in New York that I retired from last year “quietly” laid off hundreds of employees every Fall right before Thanksgiving every year since the onset of Covid. There was no such thing as “WARN”, they claimed they were “reorganizing & closing down certain departments “, they offered those employees a chance to find jobs in other departments (had to apply & pursue jobs themselves with no assistance from
HR). They offered them a small severance (2-3 months ) depending on their job position, so they could avoid paying unemployment), the laws changed in NEw York recently that they can’t make them sign anything. But the layoffs has been happening all over the past 3 1/2 years. They never gave any of these people 60 days notice, because they offered them severance for a few months. Most employees aren’t aware of these labor laws. I heard that more layoffs will take place again this month! 🤦🏽‍♀️

I've been laid off since April 2023 and it's been a struggle since. The job market is so competitive smh

I’ve been waiting almost a month for a replacement credit card from Barclays. I guess I’ll give them a call and ask why there’s a delay if their service is so improved 🙄
Also, I was laid off for the new year almost a year ago. Anniversary will be in two weeks. I’ve been freelancing and searching for regular work ever since ever since. It’s rough out here but best of luck to anyone unfortunate enough to have been cut.

Between outsourcing & AI, the job market in America is becoming terribly grim. Especially in tech. What happened to manufacturing is now happening to tech. My company got bought out by private equity a few years ago. Since then, we've laid off nearly 85% of our engineering dept. Most of those jobs have been replaced by cheap labor in India.

The corporate spin doctors that say AI is the future for them will scratch their heads when they get fired.

You JUST made a video stating that layoffs were the thing to NOT worry about this year due to companies figuring out what what their staffing "sweet spot" is 😭😭

I just found out that the employer I left last summer just had a mass layoff. They were even demoting supervisors. So glad I got out when I did.

A note about WARN... some companies will commence layoffs as they announce them. Since they don't want you to potentially create trouble in the next 60 days, they may say "Today's your last day working, but we will keep you on payroll for the next 60 days." I appreciate having that buffer time (this happened to me), but the WARN act often doesn't mean workers will see that advanced notice.
