About time someone said something about this guy's backhand. Love it.

Other advantages of a single handed backhand not mentioned are that you retain far better balance due to being able to play the stroke with your legs spread, and your free arm being outstretched also aids that balance. Being able to play a backhand with your back to the net with arms and legs fully spread also means you can get your racket onto balls that would be out of reach of someone playing with a double handed backhand, and if you don't believe me grab a racket or a feather duster and try both ways and you'll see exactly what I mean.

As if this isn't enough, being balanced and more upright when executing the single hander makes if far easier to head back in the opposite direction after hitting one so you're onto the next return faster than would be the case if you needed to do this had you just hit a double handed return.

The single handed backhand is a misery to learn when starting out, but once mastered, is one that delivers greater rewards than a double handed backhand ever could, thus more than rewarding the player for all that effort they put in mastering it.

That's a Full Eastern grip, index on bevel 1 just like Federer, not semi western.

Wawrinka, Thiem, Dimitrov: Mild/Modified Eastern, knuckles aligned (hammer grip) on the line between bevel 1/2.
Federer/Tsisipas: Full Eastern - same as the previous one but only the index knuckle shifts to bevel 1, knuckles are not aligned, but in a diagonal instead

On the pro tour, being able to change directions on the backhand and go up the line consistently and with power is synonymous with "good backhand." That's it. If you can take a cross court shot and go up the line all day, you have a good backhand. Everybody can hit cross court all day long.

2:06 is that not an eastern backhand grip where the index knuckle is on the 1st bevel?

No way that’s a semi western backhand grip, looks more like an eastern one

Hopefully it’s not because his parents gave him a lot of backhands when he was a teenager.
