Praveen. Thought provking. The only workable alternative seems to be the 2-state solution. Hope the leadership of both camps see the reason.
Having said this, I believe Hamas has forced the hand of Israel to respond. No nation state would have an option to not react. While, I agree with you strategically this make no sense for Israel, it had no other choice perhaps. Also, what strategic sense did it make for Hamas to attack? Cannot see any strategic benefit for the Palestenian cause. Sadly, a cynical view - perhaps only Hamas' string pullers may have gained from this.
Unfortunately, for civilians though, this is a massive tragedy and nothing to show for. 😢

Besides Hamas leadership being intact, Palestinian women folk are also largely intact to deliver children who will join the Hamas cadres. So even if IDF kills lots of Hamas cadres in next decade there will be more than it's present strength. Take note that the fertility rate in Palestinian women is above 3.5.
As in Pakistan after judicial assasination of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Pakistan Peoples Party cadres used to say "tum kitne Bhutto maroge, har ghar se Bhutto niklega".
Palestinian women would be heard saying "tum kitne cadre maroge hum har saal naya cadre nikalenge".

A failure to examine the root causes of the violence (the elephant in the room here is the displacement, occupation, oppression and subjugation of an entire population) and to engage in diplomacy is the problem. Diplomacy is a lost art.

It amazes me that Indian analysts always look at things from an Israeli perspective. No one is acknowledging the elephant in the room which is that Israel is a settler colonial state. It worries me that we are blind to the colonial aspect of this conflict. Are our analysts compromised by American interests or is their Islamophobia getting in the way?
