Maybe we should stop buying Monstera Albos

The ONE thing you need to know about buying a Monstera Albo cutting is to check the stem. Seeing the stem and looking for the growth point (auxiliary bud) is the main way you can determine what a mid cutting of a monstera will look like in the future.

i bought albo monstera to cut it up into multiple cuttings and give them away for free to crash the local market. Cause they are unreasonably expensive

It is challenging saying goodbye to a loved plant, but sometimes it's necessary. Good to know the risks of these albos!

“Here for a good time, not a long time” is a positive perspective. I had no idea they were so inconsistent!

Man I hate the albo market so much, i got a Thai Constellation baby for $70 specifically BECAUSE it had a lower variegation. So many of these Albos i see on the market have way too high of a variegation to be healthy plants and it sucks.

I went to a local plant swap yesterday and it was so hard not to buy the pretty albos, but I know I'm saving myself from a headache later on

Love the breakdown and honesty. I wish all new malbo owners knew this before buying

Thank you for yet another informative clip. I don’t own one, or at least I don’t think I do 😂. I paid $60 for a small plant from a private seller who said it was an albo and pointed out a minuscule white spot, assuring me it would grow more white. I’m waiting… but it’s only been a few months since I’ve had her. I do love my syngonium albo and find her equally, if not more, beautiful.

I'm a big fan of medium variegation. It seems to be a lot more stable.

I'd second this for Thai Constellations too. Some are more susceptible to loosing all their white variegation sections faster, some are super prone to root rot while others aren't bothered by your conditions after being in TC most of their lives. It's taken me 6 tries to get one without loosing the roots within a week of it arriving, though I'm hopeful 2 I was worried I lost ( i luckily put the leaves in water as they were pretty despite loosing their nodes) and both have new root growth so here's hoping they'll survive. TC plants are great but some are just super delicate and just changing potting mix or their spot in the house has them throwing death screams

Maybe this is just me and up to personal preference. I don't really understand what the obsession with variegation is. It just looks more like an imperfection. I won't reject a plant because of it but it isn't something I specifically seek out in a plant either.

I bought a middle cutting with two leaves back in June and it didn’t do nothing for a couple of months. It’s been two months and it’s given me three new leaves. But I must say and admit I don’t care for that plant anymore. I forget to water it I don’t look at it either. My love for aroids went to the moon I’m more into Anthurium’s and dope philodendrons. I plan on selling my Albo this spring.
Thank you for this information also!!

I made this mistake last summer. I bought a nice albo philodendron and tye leave was a high mix of white to green. It's produced 3 leaves. 2 were all white and slowly died. The 3rd leaf is 95% white with 5% green. I didn't know to look at the growth points at the time.

We bought one from someone on Facebook market place. Luckily I knew what to look for and we have a new leaf with variegation on it. It’s coming along nicely.
