Actually, while not actually stated, the "S" sigil was shown to be the family crest of the House of El in Richard Donner's SUPERMAN back in 1978.

The first instance of the S symbol being associated with Krypton is the Richard Donner Superman movie.

More accurately, he's Krypton born and Kansas raised.

Also speaking of superboy you kinda forgot about his son Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy the son of pre flashpoint Superman Clark Kent and pre flashpoint Lois Lane who in my opinion is so awesome and adorable that he and Damien Wayne robin became best friends just like there fathers.

Regarding his secret identity, it was stated in the past that, when he's Superman in public, he vibrates his head ever so slightly, so he always appears a little blurry. Secondly, I don't think many people in the DC Universe even consider that Superman would have a secret identity. Why would he need one, they may ask. He's Superman! Thirdly, Lex Luthor, post crisis, set a team of experts to discover who Superman was. They did and outed him as Clark Kent, but Luthor mocked and fired them, as he thought that a being as mighty as Superman, wouldn't stoop to being a lowly shlub. So there's that identity working for you.

I like the explanation that Kryptonian written language was originally pictograms (so a mountain would be an upward pointing triangle, etc.), evolving into concepts being represented by images of objects (so, endurance by a mountain, anger by a fire, that sort of thing), then into its final form. Krypton is a relatively arid planet compared to Earth, and the S symbol originally represented a river, because in a dry land, flowing water is hope. The House of El took the symbol because, as scientists, they wanted to bring knowledge to the people the way water brings hope to people dying of thirst. And Superman is a symbol of hope not only to the general public in the DC setting, but even to other superheroes.

I think the first when it came to making the S a crest for the El family was Superman the movie (1978).

Fun fact, it's not just glasses as a part of his disguise. He also subtly compresses his spine to appear a bit shorter, slouches slightly and wears baggier or ill fitted suits to hide his muscular physique.

In Superman The Movie 1978, Superman doesn't turn back time, he alone travels back in time by flying faster than light.
