Perfect irony is that charli xcx realizes she makes cheesy pop songs but still she is self aware and it makes it somehow intelligent in essence. I am starting to love her.

This video is amazing. When her phone is dead, the girl has to deal with real life, which is scary and awful. Then you see how famous popstars aren't as perfect as they look like and a lot of them only want to make money. But she charges her phone again and then she is saved from the cruel reality.

For those who don't get the video; At the beginning she's dancing around in her room watching Charli's video with a bunch of her posters around her room representing her love for Charli. When her phone battery died she was stuck in a void called reality. Then she got tablet and everything's okay representing how technology and social media controls our lives. Then her tablet died and she got pulled into reality again but this time with a deeper force. She was there with everyone who based their lives on technology and on the screen, it showed how Charlie isn't as always as perfect as she seems. She tried to charge her phone and when she did, she got a seizure and this time she was stuck forever. Her face was perfect and smiling at the end with emojis coming out of her head just like when emojis came out of Charli's body.

Okay but are we gonna ignore how charli literally predicted YouTube’s ad algorithm with the “AD 1 of 2” over 5 years ago??

I can actually relate a lot to this video. I’m trying to get over my severe addiction to the Internet. I actually got so addicted to streaming on Twitch and to Discord that I ended up only eating 1 meal a day, staying up all night and sleeping all day, staying awake for over 36 hours straight, getting very bad grades and not doing much school, quitting my TaeKwonDo class, isolating myself and becoming completely alone and away from any real life social interaction, and in the end, it started making me more depressed. I’m numb to emotion half of the time. I’m getting a bit better, but I’m still very addicted to listening to music on YouTube. To everyone reading this, please consider taking a break from social media, even just for a day. Think about where you are in your life right now. Your REAL life. How is social media affecting you?

I hate it when the ghost of emo kids come into my room while I'm watching YouTube videos.

the music industry is so funny...when an artist talk about sex, drugs and money the song becomes an hit. But when the song as a positive message the song don't get noticed.

Shades of Black Mirror. When your reality is reduced to the virtual.

the video isnt about "technology", its about the power and control of the media.

if you turn off your devices and observe it all from a third person perspective, then you see whats really going on.

the media effects everything you do from what you wear, to the way you dance, and the trendy things you say.

ultimately, the media controls you if youre too involved.

the big guy at the end represents how all sources of media are controlled by a single power, a single group.

This is EPIC. It's a total open eyes today teenager fantasy. I love when there's such a storytelling in a music video it's so brave. One of the best pop music video I've seen in this decade.

How are there people who don't understand what this video is about? It's not like they're even trying to be subtle or cryptic about it.

Well, I'm gonna try and voice out my interpretation of this video. This is just MY perspective, you could take it another way. So basically, when she's on her phone taking selfies and listening to Charli, her surroundings are colourful, lively and beautiful. This might indicate how she feels "in" with the crowd and part of something "cool" and "fun" when she's sharing her photos on chat and jamming to Charli's music video. Everything seems perfect and feels perfect. When her battery dies, she then notices how bland, dark and ugly the real world is so she desperately tries to go back to her "perfect fun reality" when in actuality she's just escaping to an illusion because she doesn't like the ugly truth. We can also see this when she's transported in the White Room with the crazy and self-obsessed adults are taking selfies on selfies and all the teenage girls have collars, as if they're enslaved and unable to go off their phones. She's the ONLY one who's not on her phone so she can see things for what they truly look like. For example, Charli's actual face during the music video turns out to be ugly and instead of the smileys in the background there's skulls instead,  but the ones on their phone see it as something so fun and beautiful. Ultimately she prefers the pretty illusion instead of the ugly, real thing so she desperately tries to plug her charger in the fat man's socket (we can assume he's technology or the internet) and gets more than her bargain when she's electrocuted and in the end goes back to her  pretty fantasy/illusion.

Can anyone explain to me why I like her and her music even though it's not the kind of music I normally listen to?
