I've built a few of these, all of the cabs that share the integrated display/control deck (Pac Man Deluxe/XL, Class of '81 / Ms. Pac Man Vault edition (WM exclusive), Galaga Deluxe Vault Edition) would benefit from a replacement Sanwa joystick. The stock sticks in these have really loose tolerances with a TON of overtravel and then take way more force than necessary to activate a switch in any direction. The problem is, unless you pre-mod the control deck it's impossible to do after you complete the build without disassembling the whole cabinet.

I suggest buying the Genuine Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT 5 Pin Joystick For Arcade1Up from DiY Retro Arcade (make sure you pick the Double 4 Wave 3 cable option) which will make it "plug and play" to simply connect the new joystick to the existing encoder in these cabinets before you assemble it. Otherwise you are going to have to figure out how to map wire colors from the existing joystick wiring to a 5-pin (shared ground) joystick which is also specific to physical orientation, which is a pain but doable. Given the stick with A1up cable is the same price from DiY-RA as the stick from Amazon without I figured it's a win-win. Note that the orientation of up/down and left/right depends on how you orient the switch PCB on the stick relative to "up" on the control panel even if you use a premade cable so I'd suggest connecting it to the display/control deck assembly outside of the cabinet, making sure everything is oriented properly and then permanently mount the stick. Leave the control panel bottom shroud off or you'll never have access to it again without full disassembly of the cabinet. Also, don't forget to set the restrictor plate on your new joystick to 4-way (should be oriented with the corners in a "diamond" - just push and twist to set this).

Another tip - illuminating the coin door assembly on the non Vault/XL versions can be achieved by adding a 3.5mm x 1.35mm SPLITTER (male to 2 female, normally intended for security camera applications) at the connector for the marquee on the game PCB. Connect the marquee to one of the leads on the splitter, use a 3.5mm x 1.35mm to bare wire extension on the other end that is connected to a pair of 5mm Pre Wired LED (3-6v rated) in series (one for each coin slot)... drill a 5mm hole into the panel directly behind each of the non illuminated coin doors and hot glue the LED's in place. Around $20 on Amazon will get you the parts (add $5 for a 5mm drill bit if needed) to equip two cabinets this way. If you want to be fancy you could add a second splitter (I couldn't find a 3-way which would be better) and run another line to a bare wire to USB connector at the top or back of the cabinet for some LED ambience lights.

Nice video - cool to see the build as well. Glad you could get your hands on this new cabinet, it's a nice one!

Thanks for the step-by-step build up video. Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to your post-build review. Oh, yes. Those C screws are mercilessly hard to work with, especially at my age, and with arthritis. LOL

I wish you would have shown sliding the two pieces together, cause that's where my issue is. It won't line up. It won't match up. There's too big of a gap Before it bottoms out on the upper piece.

I just brought one of these in the UK. I am an old skool gamer from the 70's and as much as I wanted to love this product and get more of them so that I could build my own arcade but I am sending mine back for a refund. I am going to wait for the Atgames 4k models to drop and get them instead mainly because the joystick is a bit dodgy on my unit at least, Pacman sometimes it would not move where I wanted it to go, so I had to move back and then go where I needed. Rolling Thunder had software issues where it would keep me scrolling on one screen before it locked up. Horizontal games on a vertical screen are a big no no, and having the same games on every other machine is also a big no no. I honestly wanted to purchase a load of these and have my own arcade, but after an hour of testing, I honestly decided that it was just not worth it. Arcade 1up are dying especially their pinball tables now that Atgames have teamed up with Zen so I cannot see this company being around for much longer. I am 5'9 and I towered over the machine, but playing a game was ok, so if you are shorter then this will be up your ally, but if you are bigger then it is a case of wait for the XL version, if you are lucky enough to see these built already then try before you buy. The artwork is good, but if you are building this then it can scuff if like me you are trying to build this on a concrete floor. The worse game for me had to be Mappy, followed by Dig Dug 2. I think that I will stick to buying the Atgames mini where you can rotate the screen for vertical games, and then have the new model even though I hate bezels for everything else. However, it is really buyer beware for these machines, so really make up your own minds.

Do these cabinets (Arcade 1up in general) alternate between providing three-pronged plugs and two-pronged plugs? I'm asking because I found two adaptors, same model number, but one is three-pronged, while the other is two-pronged. Anyone know? I moved and can now only find two seemingly approprate thee-pronged adapters for four of my machines! Any insight would be welcome.Thank you so much, and I love the videos.

I have a question, could i mod my machine to make the coin door work? It obviously wont interact with the game but can i make it so the coin doors have holes in em to fit real coins in?

Would be helpful if you actually showed yourself doing something, like the f’n coin door.

It’s to early to buy another Pac-Man arcade 1 up not enough games we’re added the only things that’s changed is the cabinet style the joysticks are still cheap in 5 more years you’ll see a huge upgrade on arcade 1 ups right now is just not the right time that’s why I didn’t buy the turtles in time arcade 1 up cause I know there will be a better one that comes with all Konami games including Contra the Simpson but for 2 turtles games makes no sense when Jr Pac-Man gets added you’ll see Pac-Man in the game
